An Introduction to the bellicon® Rebounder

While the Cellerciser® is more of a one size fits all, universal application, the bellicon® is a fully customizable experience. There are two basic models, three different frame sizes, two types of mats, nine different mat trim colors, and 10 different bungee colors. You’ll have great fun customizing a bellicon® rebounder just for you!

The bellicon® comes in two different basic models—the bellicon® Classic which uses a high-grade, high-gauge, precision welded carbon steel, one piece frame that is finished in black powder coat and the bellicon® Premium, which also uses a high-grade, high-gauge, precision welded one piece frame, but in stainless-steel. Both models are of impeccable quality. Opting for the Classic or the Premium is really only a matter of personal taste and how the bellicon® would fit into your home décor (or wherever you wish to use it). bellicon® Classic comes in three different frame diameter sizes—39”, 44”, and 49”. Because the bungee area between the frame and the mat is approximately six inches all the way around, the 39” frame will give you a jumping area of 27”, the 44” frame will give you a jumping area of 32”, and the 49” frame will give you a jumping area of 37”. bellicon® Premium comes only in the 44” frame and the 49” frame. Jumping areas on the Premium model are the same as the Classic. Unlike the Cellerciser® rebounder, none of the bellicon® models feature foldable frames.

The 39” frame is particularly suitable if space is a concern and/or if portability is important. Those who travel frequently and wish to take their bellicon® with them would be best suited for the 39” frame. The 44” frame is a great all -around option that blends a large jumping area with portability. The 49” frame allows the maximum amount jumping area and offers the greatest comfort for standing-up and lying-down exercises. The 49” frame is best suited for staying in one location.

All bellicon® models use a Permatron® polypropylene mat just like the Cellerciser®. However, you will have the choice of the standard mat or the comfort mat. The comfort mat is similar to the standard mat except the comfort mat has an additional layer of padding around the edge of the mat, allowing for more jumping area and added comfort for laying exercises. The standard mat and the comfort mat are available for both the Classic and Premium models and are available for all frame sizes. Also, all colors are available for both mat types and all frame sizes. The following mat color trims available are as follows:

Now let’s talk about the bungee system. This is the biggest difference between the bellicon® and the Cellerciser®. First let’s talk about the bungee colors. They are as follows:

You can select up to three different bungee colors for your bellicon® unit, regardless of whether you select a Classic or a Premium model, regardless of frame size, and regardless of the type of mat and trim color. The only exception here is if you choose the “Rainbow” color bungees, that will be your one and only color choice. This is because with “Rainbow” you get six of the colors listed in the above table.

Whereas the Cellerciser® uses a fully adaptable spring system, you decide on the strength of the bungees you wish to use on your bellicon®. bellicon’s custom-formulated polyisoprene bungees are designed to balance resistance with elasticity, giving the most effective and most enjoyable rebounder workout. bellicon® bungees stretch and retract in a more uniform motion than any other bungee rebounder on the market because the polymer molecules that make up the synthetic latex extends and returns to their normal size more evenly. This results in a very supportive landing at the bottom of your jump, regardless of your bodyweight, how high you jump, and where you land on the mat.

bellicon’s® bungees come in a variety of five resistance levels to fit any bodyweight and training objective. The five resistance levels are—soft, medium, strong, extra strong, and ultra-strong. All bungee colors are available for every resistance level. The following table will help determine what resistance level of bungee is right for you.

The five bungees strengths used by bellicon® can be identified by the color of clip that holds the bungee cord in an oval shape. Soft bungee cords use a silver clip, medium bungee cords use a blue clip, strong bungee cords use a yellow clip, extra strong bungees use a red clip, and ultra-strong bungees use a green clip. Please so not confuse the clip colors with the colors of the bungees themselves. The clip colors designate resistance levels while the bungee colors are entirely up to you and your personal preferences. For example, let’s say you choose pink and black bungees with the medium resistance level. Your pink and black bungees will all have a blue clip holding the bungees together. The bungee clips are quite small and discreet, so they are not very noticeable.

All workouts and exercises can be performed using any bungee strength. In general, softer bungees provide more challenging workouts than firmer bungees while fast-paced, more intense workouts sometimes a stronger bungee to keep up. The strength of a bungee doesn’t affect how long it lasts, which is typically one to two years with normal, daily use.

For most people, choosing the “Optimal Strength” bungee for your weight is recommended. This will give you an ideal “not too soft, not too firm” resistance level and provide you with the best combination of benefits and applications.

A “Softer Bounce” is suggested for:

  • People who primarily wish to do “Health Bouncing”, which is a less intensive, very low-stress, health and fitness boosting form of workout. When doing gentler exercises, like “Health Bouncing,” softer bungee strengths don’t make workouts more challenging, as they do with standard or faster-paced workouts.
  • People looking for a more effective, more physically challenging workout, because high-energy exercises performed on softer bungees increases muscular and cardiovascular engagement due to the deeper bounce.
  • People with physical or health concerns that require extremely low-impact exercise, such as chronic knee issues, long-term back problems, etc.

A “Firmer Bounce” is suggested for:

  • People who plan on primarily doing fast-paced exercises (jogging, fast aerobics, etc.) which are easier to perform with a firmer, shallower bounce.
  • People whose primary goal is to fight osteopenia or osteoporosis.
  • People who have balance issues and require a more stable surface.
  • People with chronic foot pronation.

Let’s say there will be more than one person using the bellicon® unit, such as two spouses. If you find yourself in this situation, there are several recommendations, each depending on the weight differences of the intended users:

  • If the chart shows all of the intended users can all use the same bungee strength, you’ll be in good shape. No compromises will be necessary (example: 115 lbs. “Medium” person + 130 lbs. “Medium” person = select the “Medium” bungee strength).
  • If the difference is one bungee strength category, choose a bungee strength that accommodates the heaviest person. The lighter users can still get great benefits from a bungee strength that is firmer than usual, but you don’t want anyone touching the floor while they bounce. Choosing the stronger bungee strength will prevent that (example: 130 lbs. “Medium” person + 180 lbs. “Strong” person = select “Strong” bungee strength).
  • If the difference is two bungee strength categories, choosing the strength in the middle is the best compromise but be sure that the heaviest person doesn’t jump so high that they touch the floor (example: 115 lbs. “Medium” person + 260 lbs. “Extra Strong” person = select “Strong” bungee strength). Opting for a Cellerciser® or purchasing more than one unit should be considered in this scenario.
  • If the difference is three or more strength categories, sharing a bellicon® unit is not recommended as there would be no way to offer each person an optimal workout experience. You’d be much better off opting for a Cellerciser® or purchasing more than one unit in this scenario.

If, after receiving your bellicon®, you think that you’d prefer a different bungee strength, bellicon will happily exchange them so long as you call them within the first 10 days after receiving your unit. Replacing bungees on the bellicon® is an easy process.

Regardless of model and size, all of the bellicon® bungees attached to patented, very sturdy mat hooks which hold the bungees to the mat. These hooks are made of non-toxic, reinforced polyamide to prevent the bungee sheaths from fraying. The bungees loop evenly around the frame to secure the mat to the frame.

A top-down view and a looking up view of how the bungees are secured to both the mat hook (on the underside of the mat) and the frame on a Premium model with a standard mat. This would be the exact same if it were a Classic model and/or if a comfort mat were used.

All bellicon® models, regardless are frame size, are supported by six carbon steel or stainless-steel legs. All models and frame sizes offer the choice of either screw on or folding legs. If you are going to be traveling and taking your bellicon® with you or you envision having to move your bellicon® frequently, I would suggest opting for the folding legs. If you envision keeping your bellicon® in one place most of the time, I would suggest the screw on legs. Either way, rest assured that you bellicon® will be a sturdy piece of equipment, with no creaking or shifting during usage. All legs are approximately 14” in height so your bellicon® will sit approximately 14” off the floor. This is about four inches higher than the Cellerciser®. Bungee rebounders should sit slightly higher than their spring system counterparts as bungee rebounders allow the user to sink slightly more deeply into the mat at the bottom of a jump. This additional ground clearance, combined with the correct level of bungee resistance, will prevent the user from “bottoming out” and hitting the floor during high jumps. Finally, all legs feature a secure grip, pressure damping foot that prevents movement of the unit and damage to floors.

Looking for a bellicon® with a balance bar? That is available as well. It’s called the bellicon® Plus. It’s pretty much the same as the bellicon® Classic (carbon steel, black powder coated frame) but with a balance bar. It is available only in a 44” or 49” frame but both the standard mat and comfort mat are available as well as both the screw on and folding legs. All mat trim and bungee colors are also available.

If you decide you would like a balance bar after you receive your bellicon®, you can purchase these after the fact, as well. bellicon® also offers a host of accessories, such as one-pound and two-pound hand weights, no slip socks, carrying bags, and storage racks. I’d advise taking a look at these accessories after you’ve made your bellicon® purchase.
